Syncing WordPress with Twitter

Remember a few weeks ago when I wrote about strategies to drive traffic to your site? One of the important parts of being a good author is to give your audience ways to subscribe to your future content. This way, when you publish something they get notified by their favorite social network. Some people use Facebook and others Twitter. A growing number of people are using Google+. Let’s take a look at how to get our wordpress blog to sync with Twitter so that when we publish new content our followers are immediately notified.

WP to Twitter

We’ll obviously want to use a plugin to make this happen. If you load up your dashboard, go to Plugins -> Add New and search for Twitter and WordPress you’ll find a long list of potential plugins. I’ve tested several and the best one I found is WP to Twitter by Joseph Dolson.

Download, install and activate WP to Twitter and then go to Settings -> WP to Twitter. You will need to create a Twitter Application, which is annoying, but the tutorial in the settings interface explains example how to do it. Read through the Basic Settings and set things to work the way you want them to.

If it’s setup correctly and you publish new content, it will be posted to your Twitter feed immediately. If you have any problems setting this up, please comment below.
